Our Great Friends of the Iconic Track

Last month members from the not-for-profit organisation, Friends of the Cape to Cape Track (FOCCT), joined Cape to Cape Explorer Tours on an eight day guided end to end walk of the Track.

Jenny Kikeros, FOCCT member and nature enthusiast was amongst those who walked the whole Track over 8 days.

“I have been a member of Friends of the Cape to Cape Track since 2008 to do the walks, help out and enjoy the Cape”, she said.

“It’s my part of contributing to the Cape.”

With many walks completed over the years she still enjoys the diversity and beauty that the Track offers with her favourite part being one that is the most alone.

“I have walked the Track over 10 times.”

“I love the remoteness, wildlife, beautiful flowers and the contrast of the forest and the beach. I love it all.”

“I really like the part near Augusta because it’s so isolated.”

Mrs Kikeros said she discovered more about the coastal stretch including it’s wildlife.

“Our guides Gene and Drew shared their knowledge and experience and this time we learnt lots about birds.”

With a passion for the region and the 135km Track, CCET Directors and Senior Guides, Gene Hardy and Drew McKenzie, are also members of the FOCCT management committee.

Mr McKenzie said that as part of the FOCCT committee they could contribute expertise and detailed Track knowledge to the meetings and the group’s planning.

“We have a common interest and are happy to share our knowledge and skills with group,” said Mr McKenzie.

“We are also adoptees of the spectacular Bobs Hollow to Contos stretch of the Track,” he said.

“This years Autumn End-to-Ender was a great success and we enjoyed walking with the FOCCT members who are passionate about the Track and took pride in showing off their adopted portions of the Track.”

Like Mother Like Daughter

This week Mercedes College students and their Mum’s joined us for three days of Cape to Cape Explorer Tour action.

The 68 participants were split into groups that rotated between diffrerent challenges over a three day program including Abseiling in Boranup Forest, Caving in Giants Cave, Kayaking in the Margaret River Estuary and Team Building Activities at Contos for the Cape to Cape Explorer Tours Challenge Loop Trail.

Although physically challenging it was also a lovely bonding experience for the women and their siblings.

Whilst they all worked together as a team in the groups it was interesting to watch the similiarity’s between the parents and their children.

“Each Mum and child seemed to approach the activities in similar manners,” said Gene Hardy

“All the activities are great for team building but also fantastic for the Mum’s to have an opportunity to experience with their teenage daughters and vice versa.”

“It was a highly successful camp and the ladies and girls were a pleasure to have on tour with us.”

Great Effort Mercedes College. See you again next year!

UK Weather Girl Shines on Track

Sian Lloyd, famous for her weather presenting and travel writing, has a great love for Australia. She recently joined Cape to Cape Explorer Tours for some time on the Track.

Gene Hardy, Managing Director of Cape to Cape Explorer Tours and experienced tour guide was thrilled to share his knowledge with bubbly celebrity Sian Lloyd and her photographer husband Jonothan Ashman on their two day Cape to Cape experience.

“Ms Lloyd was great fun to be around,” Mr Hardy said.

“It was a great pleasure to be able to show Ms Lloyd, who is already passionate about Australia and a great advocate for it, another very beautiful pocket of our country,” he said.

As a bonus Mr Ashman was taken for a paddle out in the water, Mr Hardy’s favourite past time other than the Track.

“I took him out for a tandem surf at Huzza’s,” Mr Hardy said. “Jonathan was a real natural and we scored a couple of great waves”.

On day one the couple enjoyed the dramatic change in topography, scenic lookouts and incredible coastline from Smiths Beach to Injidup.

Their second day was spent in awe of the coastal cliffs and the majestic karri forest whilst they trekked from Redgate to Boranup, one of the most scenic parts of the Track. A highlight for Ms Lloyd was being approached, not by native animals, but by a couple of hunky surfers at Redgate Beach.

During the Cape to Cape experience, Ms Lloyd said that this was one of the best parts of her trip to Australia.

She tweeted that she “Had a fab days hiking…” and was feeling “…on top of the world”.

Ms Lloyd  tries to return every couple of years in the name of writing and to fulfill her desire for the vast and vivid country.

If you would like to experience a similar trip to Sian and Jonothan, Cape to Cape Explorer Tours can customise a tour that suits your needs.
