Following good winter rains and warm spring days, the wildflowers along the Cape to Cape Track are back in full force! While the Track has a range of flowers on show right throughout the year, spring is the time when the full range of flowers is on show and when many of the region’s botanical highlights are on offer.
Common companions for walkers along the Track at the moment are the exquisite Southern Diplolaena, the bold Cockies’ Tongues and the spectacular Pimelea ferruginea.

One of the groups that this area is renowned for is the ground orchids and while many of the more colourful spider orchids are still a couple of weeks off flowering, a number of interesting and intricate species are well into flower like the Jug Orchid and one of my favourites – the Bird Orchid. Their shades of green mean you really need to keep your eyes peeled to pick these guys up.

The next six or so weeks promise to be spectacular as many more species start flowering, accompanied by the diverse insect life associated with spring.
