Cape to Cape Explorer Tours (CCET) joined members of the Margaret River branch of the Surfrider Foundation to replace burnt out track posts and markers on one of the worst affected sections of the Cape to Cape Track after the November 2011 Margaret River Bushfires.
“We targeted the area between Ellensbrook and Lefthanders, just south of Gracetown, where the Surfrider Foundation have run a revegetation project for the last four years’, says Cape to Cape Explorer Tours’ Gene Hardy.
“While many of the more protected areas are already experiencing good vegetation re-growth, the very exposed coastal dunes in this area are still extremely fragile.”
“By replacing the posts and markers, walkers will be able to follow the Track in these fire effected areas, which is very important for protecting new shoots and growth.”
The vigorous re-growth after the fires and the predicted stimulation of the wild flowers makes for a very interesting time ahead on the Track.
Cape to Cape Explorer Tours are running a number of full length, fully guided walks in 2012 and these give walkers the opportunity to gain a real insight into the resilience of our coastal flora and fauna.
Join a group tours run on set dates this May, September, October and November, or choose a customized experience: highlight walks covering shorter distances are also popular.
“We have assisted a number of groups to enjoy the highlights of the Track this year’, say Cape to Cape Explorer Tours logistics expert Alison McKenzie. “These groups have walked between four and five days and also chosen to enjoy additional activities, such as rock climbing at Willyabrup Cliffs and kayaking on Geographe Bay.”
