We’re about to launch into our bumper autumn hiking season on the Cape to Cape Track! It runs from March through to June, with mild weather and blue skies. And it’s a fabulous time to tackle Western Australia’s famous 132km coastal walking trail. The good news for hikers is that we still have vacancies on our signature 8-Day Guided End-to-End adventures departing March 1, March 15 and March 22.

Why autumn on the Cape to Cape Track is so good
“Autumn is one of the best times to hike in WA’s South-West,” says Gene Hardy, founder of Cape to Cape Explorer Tours. “The Cape to Cape looks amazing at this time of year. And our guided or self-guided hikes are such a pleasure,” he says. “If you want to tick the Cape to Cape off your bucket list this autumn, the good news is we’ve still got some vacancies for our 8-day Guided End-to-End adventures.”

Dates for our autumn season in the Margaret River region

Walking with the seasons in Western Australia
The indigenous Nyoongar calendar has six seasons, and right now we’re entering Bunuru. It’s nicknamed the second summer for its warm weather and sea breezes. But arriving soon for our autumn season on the Cape to Cape Track will be Djeran. It brings a welcome break in the hot weather. A key indicator of the change of season are cool nights that bring dew in the morning. The winds change in their intensity too, with lighter breezes.

Banksias blooming in time for happy hikers
During Djeran, keep an eye out for flying ants seen cruising on the gentler winds. Djeran is also a time of red flowers, especially the red flowering gum. Plus, many banksias also come into bloom, providing nectar for mammals and birds.
