Check out these incredible shots of Margaret River’s epic Cape to Cape Track – from above! It’s a view we never see while hiking the epic 124km coastal trail. But the birds-eye view is a mesmerising one, turning the landscape into an intricate web of patterns and colours.
Hiking with a drone to capture the view from above
The fantastic images were captured by a group of family and friends from Townsville. Nicole Green organised the trip, opting for Cape to Cape Explorer Tours’ self-guided 4-Day Highlights experience. It takes in some of the best sections of the Cape to Cape Track over four days. Highlight sections include the epic granite monoliths between Smiths Beach and Injidup. And walking atop the Contos Cliffs, with stunning views over the Indian Ocean. The aerial pictures were taken by drone operator Jamie Taylor Grace, who was among the group hiking the Track.
More of the Cape to Cape Track from the air
Did you know the Cape to Cape Track stretches between lighthouses at Cape Naturaliste in the north and Cape Leeuwin in the south, where the Indian meets the Southern Ocean? It also meanders through towering forests. Dreamy white-sand beaches. Six hundred million-year-old granite cliffs and marbles. And scenic coastal paths lined with the region’s iconic orchids and wildflowers. The Track is also home to an incredibly rich diversity of wildlife, with a fascinating indigenous and European history.
When to hike the Cape to Cape Track
Nicole Green and her crew said they were thrilled with the experience of hiking the Track. Hikers visit year-round. But spring, from September-November, when the wildflowers are in bloom, is perhaps the most popular time. Autumn, from March-May, when sunny skies and beautiful mild weather prevails, is also a hit. They opted for autumn and said they were blessed with ideal hiking weather, mild temps and sunny skies!
