Track upgrades makes reaching Cape Leeuwin safer
Easy navigation and safer hiking at Deepdene
“The realignment was implemented so hikers can avoid the risky rocky section which had become very eroded right along the coast,” says Heather.
Previously, there were some large cracks that had opened in the limestone. And large slabs of rock that had plunged into the Indian Ocean, making navigation tricky in places.
Upgrades to a wild, rugged and remote section of the Track
Heather continued: “Being such a raw, rugged and remote section of the Track, this is huge win for track safety and hiker enjoyment. But the realignment still captures and celebrates the incredible views of this stunning section.”
Cape to Cape Track upgrade a win for our hikers
Our guided and self-guided hikers used the new section of Track this week. And they gave it the thumbs up.
“It’s easier and safer, making walking across this previously tricky section much more pleasant,” says our guide Murray. He often guides on Day 7 finishing at the Track’s southern terminus at Cape Leeuwin. “But you’ve still got the awesome views. And the wild feeling that there’s nothing between you and Antarctica,” Murray continued. Well done to all involved!
