What is Cape To Cape Moveable Feast and how does the catering work?
Cape To Cape Moveable Feast is Cape To Cape Explorer Tours’ in-house catering company designed especially to provide hikers with freshly prepared meals specifically designed around hiking. We also take great pride in the opportunity to show case our region’s talented local producers.
What meals do you provide hikers?
We provide our hikers with a supply box for their breakfast items for the week. It includes in-house and locally-produced items – no manufactured preservative-packed items here! We also like to give a sample of local artisan products – cheeses, crackers, chocolate & cordials. Lunches are made daily and include delicious rolls and wraps. Our dinners meanwhile have been tried and tested, and are freshly prepared meals perfect after a long day on the Track. And they’re suitable to most tastes.
What’s the food philosophy at Cape To Cape Moveable Feast?
To provide a healthy freshly prepared menu that is varied. To accommodate most tastes and personal dietary requirements. To support local producers. And to be environmentally aware.
How does the food you provide suit hikers who have been on the Track all day?
Morning tea and lunches are full of nothing but goodness. A good mix of sweet and savoury for morning teas. And varied lunch options that are filling and nourishing to push through the afternoon hike.
Where do you source produce from?
Small local producers and the Margaret River Farmers Market.
.
What are some of your favourite local artisan producers in the Margaret River region? Why?
That is an impossible question to answer! I value all of our food providers and have awesome relationships with all of them. They all go the extra mile. They are all passionate about what they do and the region we live in. I greatly value the close relationships I have developed with each of them. All amazing in their own right!
What is it about Margaret River that makes it such a foodie destination?
Visit the Margaret River Farmers Market to find out why. It’s home to the most amazing talented people putting their produce out there for all to taste! Very Brave. Or go high end with any winery lunch.
Where do you go for the best coffee in Margs? What about a top dinner out?
I don’t drink coffee – love the smell, but can’t stand the taste! However we provide our guests with some premium coffee choices, including Yallingup Coffee and Red Feather Coffee. A relaxed casual dinner to suit most would have to be the Margaret River Brewhouse. Fantastic service and great pub style food in a gorgeous setting.
You run a side operation called Margaret River Hampers. What’s that all about?
Margaret River Hampers are a beautiful bespoke gift hampers that showcase our region’s producers, wineries and artists. It was born out of my love for this stunning region.
Finally, what’s your hot tip for the best vendors at the Margaret River Farmers Market?
My hot hot tip – GO HUNGRY! For breakfast go the Ma La Dumplings alongside a breakfast burger from the local sporting organisation’s tent (just because you want to support some local kids in their sport). Don’t go past Margaret River Woodfired Bread – any loaf is out of this world. Another must try is Krissini. They make traditional Itialian bread sticks and their olive krissini are amazing. The sweet packs will totally blow your mind too. This is a definite place to stop and buy.
The Larder are usually close by if you need to pick up dinner for later. They do amazing take-home curries and pasta meals. The gorgeous, passionate and dedicated wife and husband team at Margaret River Crackers provide the best accompaniment to award winning Cambray Cheese, who are usually located right next door.
