Recently a group of aboriginal children from the northern Western Australian town of Wyndam joined Cape to Cape Explorer Tours’ top guides Gene Hardy and Drew McKenzie on a two and a half hour expedition of one of their favourite stretches of coastline. The group was treated to the sight of passing whales and learnt about the unique flora and fauna that lives in the south-west. ‘Boab to Break’ was an initiative of Surfrider Foundation Australia’s Kimberley Branch and offered 12 children the opportunity to broaden their horizons and participate in activities they had never before experienced.

The 10 day adventure to the south-west coast included an educationally motivated agenda, with perspective driven activities promoting care for the environment with Surfrider and a tour from the Margaret River rivermouth to Kilcarnup Beach with Gene Hardy and Drew McKenzie from Cape to Cape Explorer Tours.
“Taking these spirited kids on the tour was one of the highlights of my year”, reports Cape to Cape guide Gene Hardy. “We took them for a snorkel at Kilcarnup and actually none of them had even tasted salt water before!”
