“A sensational afternoon greeted the group as we set off from Bunker Bay around Cape Naturalise and on towards Sugar Loaf Rock”, wrote Cape to Cape Explorer Tours’ Guide and Environmental Scientist, Drew McKenzie. “The glassy torquoise waters of Geographe Bay made for great whale spotting with more than 10 humpback whales spotted migrating southwards back towards their feeding grounds in the Southern Oceans.”
No doubt Cape Naturaliste is a special place, but it’s steeped in history too. The Cape was named after an early three-masted 350 ton tallship on the French ‘Baudin Expedition’ in 1800, Captained by Jacques Hamelin.
There was fauna a-plenty spotted during the course of today’s walk – in addition to a variety of birdlife and the humpback whales, afternoon tea was enjoyed whilst taking in the antics of a colony of New Zealand fur-seals .
Stan Amidzic showed amazing turn of pace and agility in launching over a startled dugite that happened to be crossing the path as we approached. Despite the dry season, a diverse display of wildflowers adorned the walk from start to finish with the coastal pimelea, thick leaved fan flower, lobelia and a range of trigger plants looking sensational.”
“The majic scenery and great guide made this experience really enjyable”, wrote Stan Amidzic on his feedback form.
“This was a well organised trip!”, said Alexsandra Vujovic. “It was my second time and I’ll do it again!”
