The Cape to Cape Track is certainly one of Australia’s most scenic hikes, and now it also has one more classic cliff top seat to rest, relax and soak up the ambience thanks to the Friends of the Cape to Cape Track.
The Track is scattered with a number of such seats, some in memory of and sponsored by past hikers. The five person working party worked for several hours and carted 40kg of cement, 20 litres of water, clippers, two wheel barrows and the seat components themselves over 1km of very rocky and uneven ground, on a day forecast to reach 36 degrees!
“It’s a wonderful day to be putting this seat out here,” laughs Friends of the Cape to Cape Track President Jane Scott. “This seat is to commemorate the life of a past hiker who walked a lot on the Track, loved it very much and donated a sum of money for the construction and installation of this seat.”
“It really is a fantastic spot, half way between Bob’s Hollow and Contos, and now people can come up here and really take in the views!”.
The Friends of the Cape to Cape Track manage the Track alongside the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW), a fantastic relationship that has endured over twenty years.
Cape to Cape Explorer Tours (CCET) are local tour operators who have been facilitating life changing experiences on the Cape to Cape Track for the past six years. CCET have been the active adoptees of the stretch from Bob’s Hollow to Contos over this entire period.
“It really is a very great privilege to call this part of Australia home, I love nothing better than getting out here and assisting our clients to discover how amazing this whole area really is,” said Gene Hardy, CCET’s Managing Director. “And if I can contribute to it’s management and keeping it pristine for future generations, even better!”
