What a fantastic week of adventure for 65 Year 7 and 8 students from the International School of Western Australia. They had an incredible time experiences the best of the Margaret River region with the Schools Team from Cape to Cape Explorer Tours.

Pumping surf and breaching humpback whales

The early springtime sunshine and bonanza of spring wildflowers made for a stunning background. Meanwhile, pumping surf and breaching humpback whales entertained the students while we adventured our way along the beautiful coastline from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin. “Our schools team collected the students and staff in Perth on day one and the buzz from the students on the journey south was electric,” said Cape to Cape Explorer Tours schools and youth coordinator James Hartley. “As we checked in to our exclusive accommodation the students were gifted a beautiful ‘Margies’ sunset as the week’s adventure began.”

Hiking, surfing, kyaking and caving on the program

As part of the package provided by Cape to Cape Explorer Tours (and facilitated by our local adventure businesses), the students were lucky enough to kayak along Wooditjup Bilya or the Margaret River; surf in the iconic Margaret River region; and enjoy some refreshing swims at Gnarabup in the Indian Ocean. “We walked a magical stretch of the Cape to Cape Track from Redgate to Contos Cliffs,” says James. “And we enjoyed lunch at Contos Campground followed by a two-hour private guided caving tour of the region’s largest subterranean cavern, Giants Cave.

Challenge and adventure for International School of Western Australia students

Volleyball, basketball, cricket, footy, films and campfires with marshmallows provided the evening entertainment. Overall, the students had a fantastic week of team building, challenges and adventure. “And they were pushed out of their comfort zone,” says James. “This provided the opportunity for growth. And to forge new friendships whilst strengthening existing ones. The week provided plent of fond memories for staff and students alike, as well as for our fantastic schools team.”

Healing power and connection of country

The Cape to Cape Explorer Tours’ Schools Team aim to provide young people with the opportunity to grow through learning, experience and adventure. “We believe in the power of nature, the power of Boodja (Country), and the healing and empowering effect it can have on young people,” James explains. “We aim to provide a sense of belonging. And encourage an ecological responsibility that students can take away with them to ripple out to communities far and wide.”
