There’s no better way to experience the wild beauty of the Margaret River region than on foot. And Getaway presenter Lincoln Lewis recently joined Cape to Cape Explorer Tours founder Gene Hardy for a magical day exploring some of the highlights of the Cape to Cape Track. The story aired recently on Getaway and you can WATCH THE FOOTAGE HERE.
From Cape Naturaliste to Smiths Beach and the spectacular Canal Rocks coastline, it was a day filled with dramatic scenery, fascinating stories and the wild coastal beauty that makes this part of Western Australia so special.
A Cape to Cape Track day walk
The Cape to Cape Track stretches 132 kilometres between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin. But you don’t have to walk the entire trail to experience its magic. A Cape to Cape Track day walk is a great way to discover the coastline without committing to a multi-day hike.
Lincoln’s day with Gene offered a taste of what makes the track so special. Along the way, Gene shared his knowledge of the region’s plants, wildlife, geology and history. It turned a beautiful walk into a deeper connection with the landscape.

From Cape Naturaliste to Smiths Beach
Starting around Cape Naturaliste, the trail winds through coastal heath, rugged headlands and spectacular ocean viewpoints before reaching beautiful Smiths Beach.
The changing landscape is one of the great pleasures of Cape to Cape walking. One minute you’re walking above the ocean. The next you’re exploring rocky coastline or strolling barefoot along white sand. Along the way, there are wildflowers, native plants and plenty of opportunities to spot local wildlife.

Discovering the wild coast
The journey continued towards Canal Rocks, one of the region’s most spectacular coastal landmarks. Huge granite formations meet the Indian Ocean here, creating natural channels and pools shaped by thousands of years of wind and waves.
It’s a perfect example of the wild character of the Cape to Cape Track. And a reminder that this landscape is about much more than simply getting from one point to another.

Walk the Cape to Cape with the locals
Lincoln Lewis’s day on the track shows that you don’t need to walk 132 kilometres to experience the Cape to Cape. Sometimes, one great day is enough.
