Our amazing accommodation hub Surfpoint Resort won gold in the 3-3.5 star accommodation category at the 2023 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards! We’re on such a high and the entire team is stoked to add another gold to the awards cabinet.

Surfpoint the perfect hiking hub for Cape to Cape hikes

Surfpoint Resort is part of the Cape to Cape Explorer Tours business. And it’s where our hikers are based during our signature 8-Day Guided End-to-End adventure on the Cape to Cape Track. Hikers have the choice of either staying in a resort-style room or in a comfortable canvas bell tent set amid native gardens on the Surfpoint property, a stone’s throw from beautiful Gnarabup Beach.

WA Tourism Awards win a testament to the Surfpoint team

General manager Nic Chirico (pictured, below) said the win at Crown Perth’s ballroom on Saturday night was a testament to the care and service of the entire team at Surfpoint Resort.

“This award is fantastic recognition to our small and dedicated local team, who focus on delivering the best value accommodation experience in the region,” she said. “At Surfpoint, we cater to travelers who love sharing their experiences. And our communal kitchen and dining facilities create a space for them to do that. We also practice sustainable cleaning to ensure we minimise our impact on the environment. And maximize our ability to help our local community by creating local employment for junior staff.”

WA Tourism Awards win a testament to the Surfpoint team

Nic said the Surfpoint property is also important habitat for endangered species. And hotel guests get the opportunity to learn about recycling and minimising their impact on the natural environment during their stay. “We congratulate all of the finalists in this category, including Broadwater Resort in Busselton,” Nic said. “As a small player in such a large field, we are extremely proud of our team of 11 staff. They work so hard to make Surfpoint the little haven by the sea that it is.We operate as a sustainable business, supporting our community and are a fully inclusive workforce.” The gold medal win means Surfpoint will now represent WA on the Australian stage at the Australian Tourism Awards in March 2024.

Aiming for a third gold in the coveted ecotourism category

Meanwhile, Cape to Cape Explorer Tours was named a finalist in the Ecotourism category. And we also made the finalist list in the hotly-contested Tour and Transport Operators category. Twice before we’ve won the Ecotourism gold medal at the WA Tourism Awards. And despite not winning this year, operations manager Hamish Gibson (pictured, below) said the Cape to Cape team will be gunning for a third gold in 2024. Three gold medals means a business is inducted in the WA Tourism Awards hall of fame.

Dedication to excellence on show at awards night

The Tourism Council of WA said the best of the Western Australian tourism industry was recognised at the 2023 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards. “The industry’s prestigious awards night, hosted at Crown Perth, showcased the innovation and dedication to business excellence of the State’s leading tourism operators across 27 categories,” it said.
