What do you love about the Cape to Cape hike?
What have you loved on your 13th Cape to Cape?
“It’s the first time I’ve done the guided week with Cape to Cape Explorer Tours,” says Julie. “It’s been really interesting. And I’ve learnt so much about lots of things. I’ve learnt about the plants, animals, history, indigenous culture, marine life. I’ve seen spots I’ve never seen before, which I’ll now have to stop at each time I do it.”
What’s the best way to complete the Track?
“The self-guided option is really good,” says Julie. “The first time I ever did the Cape to Cape Track, I did it self-guided because I didn’t have the confidence or the equipment to do it on my own. That was my first introduction to it.
“Then I plucked up the courage to do it solo, camping along the way – which is brilliant. I do love it. Other timesĀ I’ve brought friends and family down to join me, and we’ve done the self-guided option because they don’t like camping – fair enough! Having a nice shower and a good meal at the end of the day is rather nice.”
Next you’re hiking the entire 1000km Bibbulmun Track?
“That’s right – this trip is part of my training for the Bibbulmun Track,” says Julie. “How crazy is that! This has been great training for the Bibb, absolutely. I’ve been very careful not to injure myself and so far so good. We’re on the last day and it’s been great so far.”
Will you be back for a 14th Cape to Cape?
“Absolutely!” says Julie. “I don’t know when. When I came for the 8th time, I was back again two weeks later. So who knows when I’ll be back! Cape to Cape Explorer Tours was just brilliant. I wouldn’t do it with anyone else. The guides are so knowledgeable. The food is great. And the accommodation at Surfpoint Resort is just brilliant. Nic (the general manager) at Surfpoint is just fantastic, she’s thought of absolutely everything. It’s just 11 out of 10.”
