Trekking the Cape to Cape Track is a “dream come true” for mad-keen hiker Abbey Freer, who is our 2019 Great Walks Magazine competition winner.
The 27-year-old outdoors enthusiast from Adelaide said she’d never been to the Margaret River region.
But hiking the Cape to Cape Track was on her bucket list and she couldn’t wait to tick it off.
“I’ve never been that way before but I’ve always wanted to. I love the beach,” she says.
“My parents went on their honeymoon to Margaret River and they’ve talked about it ever since. So it’s been a place I’ve dreamed of visiting.”
Abbey won an all-expenses-paid trip for two with Cape To Cape Explorer Tours. That includes flights, transfers and our guided, 7-day, end to end hiking experience covering the 135km distance on Margaret River’s best hike.

Over the moon at competition win
“On social media one day I saw the competition pop up. I’d been searching for multi-day hikes around Australia and the Cape to Cape Track was on the list. I thought I’d have no chance of winning,” she says.
“When they told me I thought it was a scam at first. Then I realised it was legit and I’d won. On my God, this is amazing! I’m so over the moon!”
Abbey works at the Adelaide Convention Centre. While also teaching yoga. And working as a guide.
The self-confessed “hiking fiend” now just has to decide who to take on her Margaret River adventure.
“I haven’t decided yet. A few people are vying for the spot,” she says. We don’t blame them!
