The WA border is set to open to all Australian states before the 2022 autumn hiking season on the Cape to Cape Track. It means interstate hikers can now  book with confidence. And finally tick WA’s best multi-day coastal hike off their to-do list!

Covid plan clears the way for autumn hiking in WA

The WA Government recently announced its Safe Transition Plan. It sets a 90 per cent vaccination threshold for international and interstate travel to resume.

WA Premier Mark McGowan did not announce a date for reopening. But he did confirm a date would be announced when 80 per cent of West Australians aged 12 and over were fully vaccinated. The reopening date is expected to be announced in the first half of December. And the reopening date itself is likely to be in late January or early February, according to the Tourism Council of WA. That’s based on current vaccination rates.

Perfect timing for an adventure on the Cape to Cape Track

The early-2022 border opening is perfect timing for the a hike on the Cape to Cape Track. Our autumn hiking season kicks off from the start of March. And it runs through to late June. Autumn is a season when the weather is mild and sunny and skies are blue. Winds are also light and nights are mild.

“Autumn is one of the best times to hike in WA’s South-West. The Cape to Cape Track looks amazing at that time of year. With mild weather, autumn hiking is pleasure,” says Gene Hardy. He’s the founder of Cape to Cape Explorer Tours. We’re the only Margaret River-based company specialising in hiking experiences on the Track.

Good news for tourism businesses, says peak tourism body

Tourism Council of WA chief executive Evan Hall said: “Based on the Safe Transition Plan announced, the expected reopening date in late January or early February means businesses can express confidence to customers that bookings from March onward can go ahead.”

Refunds guaranteed if the pandemic affects your WA visit

Mr Hall added that at current vaccination rates, 90 per cent full vaccination in WA will occur on January 13, 2o22. That means good news for anyone planning a visit to Western Australia. And just in case those predictions do not come to fruition, Cape to Cape Explorer Tours offers guaranteed refunds or a free date change to anyone whose travel plans are affected by the Covid pandemic!
