What an epic time we had with an inspiring group who strapped on their hiking boots for a week of fundraising on the Cape to Cape Track! Cape to Cape Explorer Tours teamed up with Inspired Adventures, who offer adventure holidays for a good cause. On this occasion, the group raised an incredible $115,000 for Windermere Child & Family Services. They’re a charity which assists children and families to help them reach their full potential. Top effort everyone!
A multitude of motivations for fundraising on the Cape to Cape Track
Among the hikers was Matthew Richardson, a former professional Australian rules footballer and current media personality who represented Richmond in the AFL. Mathew said he loved Cape to Cape Explorer Tours’ enthusiastic guides. And had a ball during four days of hiking.
Emma Muntz said she loved meeting new people, taking in the diverse landscapes of the Track, and hiking with her husband, Steven. Fellow hiker Simon John Bennett described the group as “one of the best I’ve met”. “I had a D&M with everyone in the group at some point. Absolutely loved the guides. They were all different and passionate and knowledgeable.”
More about the great work done by Windermere
Windermere Child & Family Services assists children and families to help them reach their full potential. “We transform lives by breaking cycles, changing futures and giving choices. Every day we deal with issues of crisis, assault and trauma. We focus on family wellbeing and strength. And provide safety, security and support,” the charity says. Specifically, the fundraising was for Windermere’s successful Kids on Track program. It involves a facilitator who goes into schools and works with kids to break the violence and crime cycle.
Child support services a cause close to the heart
Maree Mellett said the hike the culmination of a “tough year”. But “being here has been incredible”. Maree said her son had been self-harming. At 10, he was placed on suicide watch. So hiking the Cape to Cape Track to support Windermere was a cause close to her heart.
